Speaking from his home, Khalwale expressed frustration over the lack of progress in key areas, including impassable roads and closed industries, while claiming that the president continues to offer empty promises.

"President Ruto, I want to tell you that you have left Luhyas in the cold, your work is politics of lies to the Luhya nation, some of our roads are impassable, and our industries have closed their doors, but you keep on telling us lies every day," Khalwale said

Khalwale also pointed out that during a recent State House meeting, there was no mention of critical issues such as building hospitals, creating youth job opportunities, or improving infrastructure in Western Kenya.

What does Boni Khalwale demand from Ruto?

He urged Ruto to follow the example of the previous regime, which completed projects like the Sigalagala-Malinya Road, and called for Kakamega Referral Hospital to be elevated to a national government entity, similar to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Nyanza.

Further expressing his dissatisfaction, Khalwale demanded faster construction of the Misikhu to Matunga Road, which connects three counties and has become impassable during the rainy season.

"We have several roads in the western that need to be constructed, Misikhu to Matunda road via Brigadier is in a bad state, what are your thoughts, Mr. President? The only thing you did to us is commission a transformer in Webuye East Constituency in Bungoma, nothing else," frustrated Khalwale said.

He also accused the president of sidelining the Luhya community by favouring Luo leaders, claiming that the 30% representation promised to Luhyas has instead gone to opposition leader Raila Odinga's supporters.

Khalwale warned that if Ruto continues to neglect the Mulembe nation, he should not expect any votes from the community in the 2027 elections.

"I want to tell Mr. President that our 30 per cent that you promised Luhyas has gone to Raila's backyard. We have no right to share what we fought for in the Kenya Kwanza government. Your friendship with Raila is no ne of our business, but we want developments for our people," he added.

Why projects have Ruto launched in Bungoma stalled?

In other news, some key projects launched by Ruto during the 2024 Madaraka Day celebrations have remained stalled for months.

Authorities expressed disappointment with contractors, accusing them of hindering the government’s development agenda and causing delays and urged those responsible for processing payments to act swiftly.

However, site engineers have blamed delayed payments for the lack of progress on ongoing projects in Bungoma, despite repeated requests for funding.
