Kevin De Bruyne announces Manchester City exit

Kevin De Bruyne has announced that he will leave Manchester City when the 2024/25 season concludes. The 33-year-old has shown signs of decline, exacerbated by injuries.

    He joined the club in 2015 from Wolfsburg and went on to become one of the greatest midfielders in history.

    He registered 106 goals and 174 assists in 413 appearances for the defending Premier League champions.

    "Every story comes to an end, but this has definitely been the best chapter," De Bruyne wrote on social media. "Football led me to all of you - and to this city. Chasing my dream, not knowing this period would change my life. This city. This club.
    "These people gave me everything. I had no choice but to give everything back. And guess what - we won everything..."Whether we like it or not, it's time to say goodbye. "

    He led in assists in 2017/18, 2019/20 and 2022/23.

    He has started 19 matches this season and his performances regressed.

    De Bruyne was one of the foundations of Guardiola's team when he joined the club in 2016. Guardiola formed a devastating team with the Belgian alongside David Silva and Sergio Aguero.

    "A sad day but a happy day for the fact that I had the pleasure personally to live this time with him," Guardiola said via BBC Sport.
    "He's one of the greatest in this country. Always I have to be careful for the respect for the players that have played incredible roles, but there's no doubt he's one of the greatest for sure."
