The former attorney general addressed the media to share his perspective on his dismissal, following President Ruto’s claims that he was removed due to absenteeism from Cabinet meetings and incompetence.
In response, Muturi dismissed Ruto’s claims, stating that he was removed from office for speaking out against abductions and extrajudicial killings under the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Muturi acknowledged missing several Cabinet meetings but maintained that he had informed the president each time in advance.
He added that he had written confidential letters to the president, urging that the issues of abductions and extrajudicial killings be addressed in Parliament, but said his concerns were ignored and went unanswered.
The former Cabinet secretary reiterated his commitment to continue speaking out against abductions and forced disappearances.
Was Muturi ambushed to hand over office?
In a related development, Muturi raised concerns over the abrupt manner in which he was instructed to hand over the Public Service Ministry to the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
Muturi stated that he received a letter on Friday, March 26, just two days after his dismissal, instructing him to hand over the office on the same day.
He, however, noted that no handover notes were prepared and expressed a desire for Musalia to have a record of the operations from the time he took charge of the Public Service Ministry until his departure.
He stated that due to this, he scheduled the handover ceremony to take place on Tuesday, April 1.
