This is despite Raila's decision to work with the Kenya Kwanza government, which he had strongly opposed.

Why can't Kalonzo attack Raila Odinga?

While speaking at the Umoja Summit Party's Annual Delegates Convention on Thursday, April 3, he stated that he could never bring himself to attack those he has worked with.

He affirmed that it is simply his nature to maintain mutual respect with former colleagues, even if they go in a different direction.

"However, we live in this country and have built personal relationships and respect for each other. No one will ever hear me attack Raila Amollo Odinga, because that’s not in my DNA," Kalonzo said.

While seemingly addressing whether Azimio still exists, Kalonzo said that when Raila-led ODM signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), he knew the Azimio Coalition had ended.

He further stated that his conclusion was realistic, as he believed the Wiper Democratic Movement cannot be the only party in Azimio.

Did Kalonzo Musyoka write to Raila?

This follows a letter from Kalonzo to Raila, raising concerns over the fairness of the process to select new commissioners for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

He argued that the IEBC issue was one of the topics discussed during the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) engagements.

Kalonzo further expressed concern over the apparent omission of the electoral body's reconstitution in the 10-point agenda that Ruto and Raila agreed upon when they decided to work together for the country's betterment.

However, the former vice president reiterated his commitment to waiting and observing how the IEBC selection process unfolds before deciding on his next step.

Days later, ODM party secretary general Edwin Sifuna accused Kalonzo of attempting to delay the IEBC reconstitution process.

Sifuna also denied Kalonzo's claims that ODM is working with UDA in orderto manipulate the process.

He disclosed that one of the individuals shortlisted for the IEBC position is his advisor, maintaining that the candidate had every right to seek the role.

The secretary general emphasised that the IEBC selection panel is functioning independently in accordance with the law, cautioning against early political interference intended to undermine the process.
